The fit of your wig really does matter; it’s a factor that determines comfort, security and coverage, and even influences how your wig looks and feels. A well-fitting wig is also much easier to maintain, with less frequent styling required to achieve the finish you desire.
Contrary to popular belief, a perfect fitting wig does exist! Our high quality synthetic and human hair wigs have been crafted with fit and comfort in mind, and we contemplate more than just wig sizing when sculpting a cap that fits like a glove. A wig is after all a three-dimensional structure, with every contour and angle key considerations.
The shape of the human head is far from standard, which means there’s certainly no one-size-fits-all when it comes to headwear. Healthfully shares just how different human head shapes can be and which factors can influence their unique curves:
“There are many different human head shapes. Many are considered normal and are regularly seen in men and women. However, some head shapes are considered abnormal and can be identified in infancy. Some abnormalities are caused by how and when the brain forms within the skull, and some are caused by the position of a fetus within the womb. Some head shapes are caused by the position in which a child sleeps or rests during infant growth stages.”
Not all heads are spherical, and with the crown at the top of the head and occipital bone at the back far from uniform either, a wig cap that sits securely – without riding up or shifting – isn’t a straightforward achievement! The curve from temple-to-temple has a bearing on the geometry of a wig cap too.
Your hairline will also influence the fit of your wig. As a rule of thumb, hairlines are rarely straight, they curve subtly into M- and U-shapes, and can sit lower or higher on some individuals. This hairline arc should be worked with, not against, when fitting your wig. It’ll ensure a natural look and secure finish, especially with lace front and monofilament styles.
The nape – the point where the head meets the neck – is another area that your wig should skim beautifully. The head posture of the wearer can also dictate where the wig sits as well as how much tension is placed on the cap.
Each and every one of our wigs incorporates Velcro adjusters in the nape area to ensure size can be altered and comfort can be customised. Team this with the open stretch fit of the back of the wig cap, and there’s a perfect balance between grip, comfort and breathability that is certain to complement all head shapes and sizes.
For a visual fit that complements your head and your face, our wigs aim to bring balance to every wig wearer’s facial proportions. In addition to considering the ‘rule of thirds’ to keep everything as symmetrical as possible, our wig makers look at how the wig will frame the face with volume at the sides adding to this symmetry.
