When rocking a wig, comfort isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity! Whether your hair loss and thinning is caused by one of these medical issues or you simply desire a more versatile look, comfort is everything – especially if you wear your wig every day.
Achieving wig comfort is more than about looking good though. If a wig pinches, leaves you overheated or constantly feels out of place, it can quickly shift from being empowering to a cause of much frustration. A comfortable wig makes all the difference, supporting confidence you didn’t know you could feel after losing your hair, allowing for natural movement and helping you go about your day at your most fabulous!
The ergonomics of the average wig have A LOT to live up to. In this blog post, we explore how our wigs are designed with comfort in mind and made for long, secure wear, whatever your day brings.
Let’s start with the foundation of the wig; as a part of the wig that comes into direct contact with the scalp (if you don’t wear a wig liner), the construction of the base or cap is an important consideration. And, as you’ll discover, not all wig caps were created equal when it comes to comfort.
With comfort a top priority for us and our customers, our wigs sport either wefted or monofilament bases. We’ll let Cancer Hair Care explain how monofilament material puts comfort first:
“A monofilament base is a transparent fabric base that has hand knotted/tied hair attached in a particular pattern that is similar to natural hair growth. This base can be used to create all of or part of a wig. For example it is quite common to have a human or synthetic hair wig that has a monofilament top area but a weft base for the sides and back… Other advantage of monofilament material is that it is very soft and creates very good air flow to the scalp.”
The weight of a wig is another aspect that can directly affect the comfort of the wearer. A heavier wig naturally puts strain on the scalp, creating pressure points that lead to discomfort, headaches and even neck tension. Weighty wigs also tend to feel less breathable, which can be uncomfortable if you lead a particularly active lifestyle or the weather is on the warm side.
By going lightweight, you can enjoy a wig that feels more natural, reduces fatigue, and keeps movement free and easy. With a lightweight wig, there’s less of a need for constant adjustment, with effortless comfort all a part of the deal.
Open cap and lace front constructions tend to be the least heavy, while favouring synthetic fibres can mean a more comfortable experience all round. The style of your wig can also keep it light; opt for shorter styles or layered cuts to relish volume and movement without the bulk.
When taking a closer look at the features that make our wigs the comfortable, captivating pieces they are, our adjusters play a vital role.
You’ll find our Velcro adjusters at the nape of the wig, and they’re made to guarantee the perfect fit as well as quick and easy wig application. You can tighten or loosen your wig at will, with these soft and thin adjusters making our wigs your most comfortable wear yet.
