Does my wig need to be washed more often during summer?

In short, yes, your wig will need to be washed more regularly during the warmer summer months. You generally use more products in summer. Whether controlling frizz, adding extra shine or increasing volume, products build-up without frequent washing to leave your wig heavy and looking a little lacklustre.

Increased production of natural oils and sweat also makes frequent wig washing more of a necessity. You’ll find further advice on washing your wig here.

Is a human hair or synthetic wig better this season?

Whilst human hair wigs are well known for their stunning, natural looks, a fact that makes them the first choice for discreet wear, a synthetic wig style is the better option for summer.

Synthetic wigs are more lightweight than human hair wigs, which means increased comfort for you even in the height of summer. Choosing a shorter synthetic style or styling your longer tresses in a wig-friendly updo will also help you to keep your cool as temperatures soar.

My wig is looking a little flat, are there any products that can help?

Excess sweat, oil and product build-up can take their toll on your wig, you don’t have to suffer a flat, lifeless look this summer, however. The right wig care products can provide the lift and shine you need to bring your wig back to life. Our Control Shape Spray is a summer must-have that restores shine, shape and texture to synthetic fibres.

I’m having the opposite problem; how can I tackle frizz?

Humidity can have the opposite effect on human hair wigs causing styles to become excessively voluminous, frizzy and unruly. Bring human hair fibres back under control by using a wig-friendly hairspray.

Can the summer sun damage my wig?

Unbeknown to most, direct sunlight can be particularly damaging to wig fibres, especially during the summer months. Without the right protection, exposure to lots of direct sunlight can cause the colour of your wig to fade, and its texture to become dry and brittle.

I’m going wig free this summer, any advice?

Summer is a great time to go wig free. By giving yourself a break from wig wear, you can let the fresh air get to your scalp and natural hair for an amazingly invigorating feeling. Just as your wig needs protection from the sun’s rays, however, so too does your scalp.

Holland and Barrett share their advice for protecting your scalp this summer:

“There are specific sun protection products you can use on the scalp to give an extra layer of protection or you can use plain old suncream – it’s up to you! If you have makeup products with SPF-like foundation, you can also use it on these areas. You should also make sure that you apply sun cream to your ears and neck which are other areas that are easily missed.”

Again wearing a hat or headscarf will provide additional protection from the sun so you can go wig free safely this summer.
