Losing your hair can take its toll on more than just the physical. The link between hair loss and identity is after all strong, with our hair a defining feature as well as a symbol of youth and vitality. We’ll let DermNet explain more about the psychological problems that so many hair loss sufferers experience on a daily basis:
“The evidence confirms that the experience of hair loss is psychologically damaging, causing intense emotional suffering, and often leading to personal, social, and work-related problems… Compared with the general population, people with hair loss have an increased prevalence of psychiatric disorders, including a major depressive episode, an anxiety disorder, social phobia, or a paranoid disorder.”
Finding practical and emotional hair loss support along with instant, consistent coverage that helps you feel more confident may just depend on the right accessory however…
A wig is an excellent investment for those experiencing hair loss or thinning for whatever reason. Wearing a wig gives you fuller locks that can be discreetly matched to your natural hair and complement your personal style.
A great wig also makes every day wear that bit easier. With a wig, there’s very little need for styling, meaning you get to forgo the chemical treatments and heat that further stress fragile follicles and sensitive scalps.
Wearing a wig can also give you a sense of normality and control that you may be lacking at this uncertain time. Feeling comfortable with your appearance once again can ease social anxiety, support emotional wellbeing, and allow you to focus your energy on living your life rather than worrying about your hair.
A wig can essentially become a tool for building confidence, ensuring comfort and expressing your true self.
For certain individuals, there is financial aid and support available to help purchase a wig in the UK. Wigs for Heroes for instance provides such support across London, while the Little Princess Trust has been supplying free, real hair wigs to children and young people with cancer and other conditions for the past 20 years.
Free and subsidised wigs are available on the NHS, but only to eligible individuals. Free NHS wigs are available to those who are under 16, aged 16 to 18 and in full-time education, hospital inpatients, war pensioners with a valid war pension exemption certificate, in receipt of certain benefits, or named on a valid NHS certificate (HC2 for full help or HC3 for partial aid).
Our consultations offer an expert insight that is invaluable to those new to wig wear, and they’re available for free via NHS referral.
If you are a private customer, consultations are charged at £35.00, which must be paid at the time of booking by debit card or bank transfer. This fee is for the wig consultant’s time. During your appointment, you can explore our stock and speak to a specialist about any wig-related query or concern.
