The cut, length and style of your chosen wig can make all the difference to how natural and flattering it looks and feels. Just like the right hairstyle, the right wig can bring a sense of balance, offsetting features that you may not be confident about and adding definition to the ones you want to show off! So, which wig style is right for your face shape? In this blog post, we share the most common face shapes and the best wig styles for each.
As the most desirable face shape, ovals offer balanced proportions and impeccable symmetry, which often means anything goes in terms of wig styles. Oval faces are by far the most versatile, with the vast majority of wig styles looking great as a result. Still, some wigs work better than others.
If you’re lucky enough to have an oval face shape, try shoulder-length styles, long layers or soft waves with centre or off-centre partings. Blunt bobs – like our Keeley wig – also look great on ovals.
If your face is softer and fuller, you should avoid blunt cuts, heavy bangs and chin-length wig styles. Longer, layered styles work best for elongating round face shapes, with deep side partings offsetting fuller features by adding a touch of asymmetry. Our Antonia wig ticks all these boxes.
Don’t write off bob hairstyles completely however. Bobs can work for people with round face shapes, especially if you add texture as The Right Hairstyles describes:
“A classic long bob features angled layers that graze the collarbone, adding length and definition… A textured layered bob is ideal for round faces because it adds movement, breaking up the face’s roundness. The layers create angles, making the face appear longer and slimmer. By adding volume at the crown and keeping the ends light, this style ensures an elongating effect.”
For more angular jawlines and equal width across the face, the trick is to choose a wig style that softens instead of defines. Texture in all its forms is great here, with curls, waves, layers and side-swept fringes fantastic additions.
Again sharp, blunt cuts should be avoided, while poker-straight wigs are also far from flattering. Try a textured lob – a.k.a. ‘long bob’ – like our Millie wig to discover the perfect balance.
If you have a broad forehead, are blessed with high cheekbones, and cap all this off with a petite, narrow chin, it’s likely that you have a heart shaped face. Balance these proportions by adding fullness around the jaw using one of our chin-length bobs, complete with wispy bangs, just like our Charlie wig.
The same principles apply for diamond face shapes, which are known for their wide cheekbones and narrow jawlines.
For long and narrow faces, try a short to medium length wig with layers or waves to add width. Full and curtain fringes are made for oblongs too, with this face shape able to pull off volume at the sides like no other! Just avoid long and flat wig styles, as well as wigs with centre partings but no volume.
Our Annabel wig and Eden wig are two very different styles that both look incredible on individuals with oblong face shapes. They’re also available in a plethora of colours to match your skin tone and style.
