There are lots of ways to style your wig and you don’t necessarily need to buy two different wigs, such as – one straight and one curly. Although this will save you a lot of time and effort. Read on to find out more about the world of curling and straightening wigs.

Should you have separate wigs?

The short answer is: no, you do not need to buy two separate wigs. However, it will save a lot of time if you do have two wigs as you won’t have to keep re-curling or re-straightening it. The great news about wig wearing is that once you have styled your wig, it will stay like that until you wash it.

In this article, we’re focussing on human hair wigs as synthetic ones aren’t able to withstand even low heat, so it should not be styled using heat because it will be damaged. A wig made of human hair however, can be styled as you would a natural head of hair.

How to curl your Human Hair wig

Our favourite way to curl a wig also happens to be the safest way to curl it. This is our favourite way of curling a wig:

1. Put your wig on a mannequin or wig stand.
2. Brush the wig with a wig brush or wide-tooth comb to remove all tangles and knots.
3. Divide the hair into sections using clips. The sections should be no bigger than 2 inches (5.1cm).
4. Wrap each section of hair around a roller. Do this as neatly as possible, so that the curl is neat when you unravel it from the roller later on.
5. Apply a warm hair dry to the wig to help the curls to develop.
6. Unwind the rollers from the hair gently.

How to straighten your Human Hair wig

Once you have curled your wig, the curls will stay in place until you wash the wig.

How to care for a wig you want to style

You need to look after a wig you will be styling very carefully. This means washing your wig gently and regularly.

We recommend following these instructions:

1. Before you submerge your wig in water, you should carefully brush it to remove all knots and tangles.
2. Fill a basin or bowl with tepid water and add a little shampoo.
3. Place your wig in the water and very gently agitate it back and forth in the water,
4. Throw the water away and apply more fresh, soapy tepid water to the bowl to rinse the shampoo off the wig.
5. Make sure that all traces of shampoo have been removed.
6. Apply a small amount of conditioner to condition the fibres of the wig.
7. Rinse the conditioner out.
8. Pat gently with a towel to remove excess water. Never rub your wig.
9. Place your wig on a wig stand so that it can dry naturally in the air.
10. Once it is dry, gently comb it to make sure that it falls the way you want it to.

If you wear your wig every day, then it should be washed every 10-14 days.
