Whether you’re wearing a scarf to cover hair loss, or simply as a fashion accessory, it’s a great way to add instant colour, style, and personality to your look.
As @SheKnows puts it, “From retro to boho, there’s a million different looks you can create with a scarf, and many styles either help keep your hair out of your face or add a little perk to weighed-down tresses.”
If you’ve already bought a headscarf and want to know how to make the most of it, take a look at our quick guide on the five best ways to tie your new accessory.
If your headscarf is square-shaped, keeping it simple is often your best option. Simply fold the scarf in half corner to corner so that you form a triangle.
Then place the scarf on your head with the fold at the front and the widest point of the scarf on the top of your head.
Take the corners down to the nape of your neck and tie in a knot or bow.
While almost as quick as a simple tie, the rosette look appears more complex so is a good choice if you want to dress up. To create this look, place the middle of a rectangular scarf on the middle of your forehead, bring the ends to meet at the back and tie in a double knot.
Next, pull the knot to the side of your head, twist both ends and wrap the twisted ends around the knot. Finally, tuck in the ends and you’re ready to go.
If you want to let your boho-chic side shine, this is a great option. Casual, glamorous and easy, it will work well in any season. To create a boho look, place the scarf on your head unfolded, with one edge along your forehead.
Next, knot both ends at the back of your head, move the knot to the side and make a large bow. Alternatively, leave the ends loose and allow them to fall across your shoulders.
Adding a touch of vintage glamour to your look, a turban-style tie can look great with both casual wear and a dressier look.
Fold the scarf into a triangle and place the folded edge of the scarf against the nape of the neck with the pointed triangle towards your face. Bring the two long ends towards the front of your head and tie into a knot over the triangle.
Next, take the two long ends and bring them to the back and tie in a knot again and tuck the ends up into the headscarf.
Finally, take the triangle at the front and tuck it into the knot so there are no loose ends.
Last but not least, you can create a big bow look by folding your headscarf into a triangle, placing the folded edge at the nape of the neck and bringing each side over the ears and up to the top of your head. You then tie the long ends into a big bow.
