Menopause is a time of significant hormonal changes in your body and those changes affect you from top to toe. That includes your hair! Hair loss is a common symptom of menopause, alongside hot flushes, insomnia and mood swings.

How to manage hot flushes

Hot flushes are linked to things that raise your body temperature. Common triggers are being in an overly warm room or having a hot meal or drink.

To work out what causes your hot flushes, keep a journal for a week making a note of when and where your hot flushes happened.

That way, you can identify the sources of your hot flushes and try to avoid those sources.

Breast changes

The reduction in oestrogen means that your skin becomes less elastic causing your bosom to shrink, change shape, lose firmness and become more prone to lumps.

It’s a good time to invest in a supportive, well-structured bra to keep you feeling confident about your appearance.

Bone density loss

Combatting bone density loss due to menopause-related oestrogen reduction is very important.

Your risk of developing osteoporosis, having a stroke and or developing diabetes can all be reduced by exercising regularly.

Exercise also makes you feel good because of the endorphins it releases. It will also help you to stay on top of your weight, which can be difficult to maintain after menopause.

Mood changes

Managing the mood changes that menopause can cause can sometimes be tricky.

However, looking after your self-care can help you to combat those frazzled afternoons when you feel like you are at your wit’s end.

Take at least 10 minutes every day to look after yourself, have a long bath, meditate, practice yoga or give yourself a foot massage.

Switch up your look

Rethink your image when you are experiencing the menopause, give yourself a makeover to inject confidence back into your life. Treat yourself to a new wardrobe and hairdo.
