Winter is all about snuggling up and getting cosy. The hats, scarves and gloves come out of storage and your favourite winter coat gets a trip to the dry cleaners.
Hygge is the hot word of the last five years, but if you are a wig wearer, getting your head all hygge without messing up your wig can be tricky.
There are lots of other ways to embrace the Scandi hygge trend. @BritishVogue has some great advice for “How To Hygge: The Best In Scandinavian Style.” But read on to find out how to navigate the cold months ahead with your dignity still intact.
When you want to wear a wig and a hat at the same time, the answer is to have a light-handed approach. Do not jam your hat over your wig.
Use wig pins to keep your wig in place instead, as well as some kirby grips (bobby pins). Just remember to remove the pins carefully when you want to take off your hat.
We also recommend buying a wig that is slightly too big for you if possible as this will give your wig more room and will prevent squashing. It will also make it easier to remove.
To prevent your hair from standing on end, apply an anti-frizz serum as well as a conditioning serum to your wig. You should do this every day anyway, in an ideal world to make sure your wig is always looking its best.
However, this is essential if you want to wear a wig and a hat simultaneously. Conditioning serums are brilliant in the winter months for making sure your wig looks sleek and healthy. Apply a few squirts to your wig after every wash from November to March to keep it looking its best.
Our final top tip is to make sure that your wig is VERY firmly in place before putting your hat on. Use everything in your power to make sure that your wig is fixed securely.
Use wig glue, extra wig clips, tape, etc. so that when you take your hat off, your wig does not go with it! And to go to the restroom/bathroom to remove your hat.
That way if your wig does come off with your hat, at least there was no one (or fewer people) to see it. This also allows you to rearrange your wig if there has been some slipping.
